Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are likely to avoid a return clash between promising stablemates Silent Impact and Concocted in the Group 3 $160,000 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Unbeaten Silent Impact and Concocted ran the quinella at a Rosehill Saturday meeting late last month and are among 16 entries for the feature three-year-old race.

The Richard and Michael Freedman-trained Tiger Of Malay, winner of the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm back in May, is topweight with 61kg ahead of Subterranean on 58kg.

Silent Impact and Concocted both get into the Up And Coming Stakes on the 54kg limit but Waterhouse indicated only one of the stable’s talented duo will line up at Kembla Grange.

“We will run one, we won’t run both,” Waterhouse said. “It is up to Adrian to decide but both are terribly exciting young horses.”

Waterhouse, who has trained a record five Up And Coming Stakes winners with Master Ash (2018), War (2013), Dreamscape (2008), Snowland (2002) and Newquay (2001), described Silent Impact and Concocted as “handsome three-year-olds but physically totally different types”.

Silent Impact will run a ‘mile’ to 2000m with his eyes closed,” Waterhouse said. “Everyone was amazed when he won over 1000m at his first start because he is by Maurice.

“But in Australian racing, we can inject speed into these horses because our mares have so much precocity. Concocted is a nice style of horse, he’s a compact, masculine type and is more a sprinter.”

Waterhouse and Bott have various other race options for Silent Impact and Concocted including either the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) or Ming Dynasty Quality (1300m), both Group 3 races worth $160,000, run at Rosehill on August 28.

Silent Impact, unbeaten in two starts, and Concocted, a winner on debut at Hawkesbury before his Rosehill second placing, are both nominated for the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 25.

This is also the early spring target for their stablemate, the outstanding Converge, winner of the Group 1 J.J. Atkins Stakes last season.

Converge has had one unplaced barrier trial hit out so far this preparation with Waterhouse confirming he will trial again before his comeback to racing in the Group 2 $200,000 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on September 11.

“We couldn’t be happier with Converge, he is coming along beautifully,” Waterhouse said.

“His trial the other day was nice for the stage he’s at, he’s not fully fit yet. He doesn’t take much to get fit and will be ready to go after another trial.”
