Trackwork Wednesday 8 May 2019

Echo Princess (Redoute’s Choice/Gigas) put in a sharp gallop this morning over 1000 metres (five furlongs) with jockey Rachel King in the saddle. The mare got into a beautiful rhythm early on and worked nicely down the straight stopping the clock at 12.1 seconds for her final furlong. Rachel was very pleased with her gallop this morning and commented, “Her work was really good, she is doing it very easy.”

This morning Elcano (High Chaparral/Spottswoode), Northern Voyage (Choisir/Sacred Voyage) and Nowyunomi (So You Think/Sam I Am) were put over the jumps. The jumps at Randwick are really quite small so what we are asking the horses to do is to concentrate, focus, act quickly and lift themselves up.  Jumping is a very natural thing for horses, when in the wild they are constantly jumping over logs and rivers, it’s part and parcel of their  natural activity. And what a lovely diversion from the mundane training regime to be able to go over some little jumps. I have found in the past that often horses that are little one paced can benefit greatly from jumping.
