Spirit Of Boom colt leads Waterhouse/Bott trial domination

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained juveniles dominated the lone 2-year-old trial at Randwick on Tuesday morning, with Spirit Of Boom colt Command Approved leading home a first four for the stable in the 742-metre hit out.

Six horses fronted up for the trial, which was the 10th of the 15 heat session, and it was Command Approved who led from barrier to box for jockey Tim Clark. The colt was initially hustled up on the inside barrier to take the front, but he settled nicely from that point and rallied well in the straight to defeat Vinnie's Spirit (I Am Invincible) by a narrow margin in a time of 43.23s, which compared favourably to the other 742-metre trials on the day. There was a further 1.25l margin back to Speak Now (Star Witness) in third with Surf On Turf (Not A Single Doubt) completing the first four across the line for the stable.

Command Approved was purchased for $170,000 by James Bester and Vantage Thoroughbreds through the Newgate Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Bred by a syndicate headed by Love Racing, he is a half-brother to stakes-placed Nitrous (Deep Field) out of the stakes-performed Flamboyant Lass (Stratum), who is a sister to Group 2 winner Attention. The second colt was purchased at the same sale by Waterhouse/Bott and Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $325,000 from the Segenhoe Stud draft. He is out of the Group 1-placed Sensibility (Redoute's Choice), meaning he is bred on the same cross as stakes winners Overshare and Muntaseera
