Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing

Our Leadership

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing’s strength – which differentiates us in the racing

industry – is the experience of our team.

Gai Waterhouse

A lifetime with thoroughbreds, a thirst for knowledge and the ability to truly listen to her four-legged charges has given Gai a distinctive edge in a competitive profession. She has successfully combined tradition and innovation to establish herself as one of the world’s most respected trainers. Daughter of famous trainer and inaugural Racing Hall of Fame inductee TJ Smith, Gai obtained her trainer’s licence in January 1992 after spending twelve years as TJ’s apprentice. She has since trained over 138 Group One winners, collected 7 Sydney trainers’ premierships and was the first Australian female trainer to prepare a Melbourne Cup winner.

Adrian Bott

The son of successful breeder Tony Bott, Adrian Bott became passionate about horses at an early age, growing up at one of the leading nurseries in the Hunter Valley. Adrian completed a Bachelor in Design Computing, but knew that the Thoroughbred industry was where he wanted to make a career. Adrian worked as a cadet steward at Racing NSW before receiving a scholarship to attend the prestigious Godolphin Flying Start Program – a two-year program providing international management and leadership training in the Thoroughbred industry. Having completed the program, Adrian commenced working for Gai Waterhouse and through hard work and complete dedication to the job, Adrian formed a training partnership with the Leading Lady in 2016.
