This morning started very slowly so I thought to myself oh heavens, how are we going to get through in the allotted time? The track was sealed but somehow magic took place. The horses flowed in and out like liquid gold and Neil Paine and Mark Newnham deserved gold medals as they are always so professional and are always in attendance. Young Blake was keen as ever, Steve, Darshan, Emma, Khan, Alistair, Johnny and the horses went through their paces, three-quarter pace as the track was very wet and I don't want any injuries. Neil said of the work, "it was hard knacker" as when you are riding at this pace over 1400m - 1600m the horse is putting weight onto the bit and pulling on their riders back and legs. Neil and Mark at the end of it felt they needed to join Nash in the hyperbaric chamber for a nap. Hopefully it is a king size bed. More Joyous (More Than Ready) was just that and she is out to prove all critics wrong in two things: 1. The distance she will perform over - I am aiming her at the Cox Plate 2. That she can sustain a longer preparation - I really have a filly to work with this preparation Atelier was Blake's second best, the son of Redoute's Choice is coming to hand beautifully and is so much more mature than last time. Devil Arcade got a smiling face on her track report and like Atelier she is not yet fit but boy is she coming to hand nicely. This daughter of Snowland flies the flag for Gooree. Little Evie (Al Maher) has come through her trial in extremely good condition. She has been light and immature up until this preparation where I have a lot more to work with. Pureness (Tale of the Cat) Mark said is so much more switched on since his win. He is doing a treat and is enjoying his work immensely. Most precocious of the yearlings so far is Costa Serena (Encosta De Lago x Merlene) who is aptly named after a top world class cruise liner. Other standouts this morning included the pair of the Encosta De Lago/Dorado Deceiver filly and Strada/Wreckage colt. In search of a little party dress which is always tricky but David Jones kindly puts together a variety of ensembles of which I can choose what will look best on the racing's ambassador when she flies the flag for the opening of David Jones' Melbourne store on 12 August. Glorious evening gowns by George Gross and Armani were also tested. I never cease to get over the great value George gives to us ladies, terrific designs at affordable prices, hard to find both when you are looking for style. I had an interesting afternoon with Percy and Kane looking at feet, pointing out slightly different shaped feet, some chubby and others wider. How to correct this was also discussed in terms of what type of shoe to wear and what needs trimming to ensure our horses stay sound and race for longer. Percy was insightful as ever. Young Kane is no slouch and was very quick to pick up the flaws he added his thoughts on what needed to be addressed. I am looking forward to Warwick Farm tomorrow. We only have a handful of starters tomorrow but enough owners to fill a grandstand. Star Thoroughbreds are well represented with Timarete (Al Maher) and Mikoyan (Jet Spur), while Onetonnegun (Rock of Gibraltar) is also in the event. The staying race is only lightly patronised but I am sure Show Dancer (Zabeel) will be part of an interesting affair. Dee Bee Nine (Red Ransom) is certainly a lovely type and most consistent in his racing so there is no reason why he won't great the judge in lesser company tomorrow. |
