Trackwork Wednesday 12th August 2020

Lancer (Sepoy/Romincka) is working well and this morning he completed three quarter pace work over 1000 metres on the polytrack alongside stablemate Hemingfield (Deep Field/Hemingway Rules). Ridden by jockey Quayde Krogh, he clocked 14 seconds over the final 200 metres and Quayde said, "That was lovely work and he was consistently on the bridle to the line.” We are pleased with this gelding and appeared to really enjoy galloping the reverse ‘Melbourne’ way today. For a horse like him, who’s a bit of a thinker, it helps to keep his mind alert and ensure he’s interested in his work. His fitness is improving all the time, and we will keep bringing him along.

Yellowstone (Pierro/Montana Sunset) has settled back in well to his surroundings at Tulloch Lodge and he spent his first week gently trotting and cantering on the track. This morning he completed three quarter pacework over 800 metres on the polytrack alongside stablemates Double Back (Sebring/Rebound) and So United (So You Think/Maglissa). Ridden by work rider Vanessa Grant, he clocked 14.3 seconds over the final 200 metres and Vanessa said, "He relaxed well, got into a lovely rhythm and he travelled nicely to the line." It's only the very beginning stages of his preparation, but we are pleased with this gelding and he's taking everything in his stride. He's returned to us in good shape, and he appears to have taken great benefit from his extended time in the paddock. We will continue to bring him along gently before we gradually increase the tempo of his gallops.

Spice Isle (Hinchinbrook/Grenada) has been in training for two weeks and this morning she completed three quarter pacework over 800 metres on the polytrack alongside stablemate Jacqui (So You Think/Onassis). Ridden by apprentice Brandon Griffiths, she clocked 14 seconds over the final 200 metres and Brandon said, "She leans on the bit a little but overall she worked nicely to the line. She's still soft and she had a good blow." This mare is coming along well and she's entitled to be having a blow at this early stage. She's doing plenty of swimming and treadmill work in the afternoons to help her fitness and aid her weight loss, and we will continue to bring her along gently.
