Farnan - Simply The Best

Now that the dust has settled and Farnan has returned to the paddock at Aquis Farm in Queensland for a well-earned rest, we can all reflect on a truly magnificent colt whose performances in the autumn of 2020 have been nothing short of remarkable.

He commenced his campaign by winning the Group 2 Silver Slipper at Rosehill in devastating and dramatic fashion, before then progressing onto the Group 2 Todman Stakes at Randwick – the time honoured leadup to the Golden Slipper – where he once again toyed with his rivals and proved to be far too dominant.

Finally, it was time for the big one in the Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill. He turned up and simply ran them ragged from the front on only his third run of the campaign, which really takes my breath away. For Adrian, my co-trainer, it was a dream come true to win his first Golden Slipper. And for me, as his mentor, and someone who’s known him for most of his life, I felt such pride that I could hardly contain myself watching the colt pass the winning post.

I was also particularly thrilled for Hugh Bowman who, until Saturday, had yet to put the Golden Slipper on his well decorated mantelpiece. Well done to all concerned: Vinery Stud for providing the perfect nursery for him in his youth and to Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farm for purchasing the colt at the Magic Millions Sale. Everybody should be so proud and extremely pleased with the result the colt has given them. We all look forward to his next chapter and as they say, the rest of his story is still unwritten.
