An Opportunity not to be Missed

The Australian Easter Yearling Sale, conducted at Newmarket, Sydney is the flagship event on the Inglis calendar, attracting buyers from all over Australia and throughout the world. Regally-bred yearlings are offered from Australia's premier thoroughbred breeders and nurseries and we were fortunate to acquire a beautiful Sebring colt from the draft of Widden Stud at this year’s sale.

Sebring is a stallion Gai knows better than most, being one of the greatest juveniles to reside in Tulloch Lodge. In January of 2007, at the annual Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, a quality More Than Ready colt really caught Gai’s eye and was knocked down for an unassuming $130,000. Sebring went on to win the Breeders’ Plate, the prestigious Group 1 Golden Slipper and the Group 1 Sire’s Produce Stakes. He was crowned Champion 2 Year Old Colt in Australia and rightly so, he was remarkable.

Retired to Widden Stud, Sebring is undoubtedly the hottest young sire in the land whom many consider a future Champion Australian Sire. Siring almost 50 Stakes horses from just four crops of racing age including $7 million earner Criterion and Horse of the Year Dissident, he has proved to be an incredibly versatile stallion with Stakes winners as two year olds, three year olds and four year olds from 1000m to 2400m. When it comes to training the sires’ progeny, there is nobody better placed than Gai, and the proof is in the pudding – Gai has the best strike rate with Sebring offspring than any other trainer on top of training more winners by the sire than any other.

“This colt has a great shoulder, a strong hind end with real athleticism. He is the image of his illustrious father.”

This colt’s dam, Cute Emily, was also high class and ultra-consistent winning three times as a 2 year old including victory in the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes while placing twice in Group 2 company. Hailing from a quality female line, with both her dam and grand dam being Stakes performers, Cute Emily is by top class sire Choisir, sire of Group 1 winners in Australia, Britain, France, US and New Zealand. Choisir has enjoyed a stellar season, producing Group 1 winners in both hemispheres as well as being the broodmare sire of Royal Ascot Group 1 winner My Dream Boat.

A remarkable indicator on Choisir’s broodmare sire credentials lies in the fact he currently has only 48 horses out of his daughters racing in Europe this season, yet he is only one place behind Giant's Causeway with 117 runners and ahead of table stalwarts such as Cadeaux Genereux (158 runners), Green Desert (206) and Red Ransom (146). Choisir has a number of broodmare sire celebrities in his pedigree to give further confidence he will excel in this field. His sire Danehill Dancer has featured as the dam sire of this season's European Classic winners Minding, The Gurkha and Hawksmoor.

This is a really exciting colt going forward. He has done extremely well in his preparation, initially under the tutelage of our master breaker Ryan Prendergast. In the interim, he has continued to impress Gai in all she has asked of him, taking everything in his stride. He is a colt that oozes class to endorse his esteemed pedigree and appears to be considerable value having improved substantially since his arrival to Tulloch Lodge.
