2YO Trials - Randwick 21st September 2020

You certainly know that spring is here when the 2-year-old trials come around. It gives me a real spring in my step, and this morning was no exception as we had seven youngsters trialling, three of whom emerged victorious. Our owners will be looking forward to an exciting spring, and it's very much all guns blazing for the Gimcrack Stakes.

VACCINE was our first victor in heat three. This beautiful Not A Single Doubt filly (ex A Brilliant Idea) sat off the hot early speed and had the leader's in her sights on turning in. She knuckled down most pleasingly in the final furlong to take the gap between runners and burst through to success. Jockey Tim Clark was very pleased with her, and she will take huge improvement from this outing.

TOTAL BABE (I Am Invincible/In Style) was our next winner in heat seven. This precocious filly pinged out of the barriers and went forward to lead going into the first turn. She turned into the home straight with a 1 length advantage, and she kept finding all the way to the line to win without her rider Tommy Berry ever having to get entirely serious with her. This Mill Park Stud bred filly was a $300k purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, and being out of a G1 winning mare she has all the ingredients to make up into a very successful racehorse herself.

Our final winner came in the shape of EXCELA BELLA (Exceed And Excel/Caraveli). She jumped well to put herself on the speed early, and after disputing the lead in the middle stages of the contest she kicked clear in the straight and kept finding all the way to the line to win a shade more cosily than the official margin of 0.2 lengths suggests. She has a very willing attitude, and she looks set to go very close when she goes to the races.
