Inglis Easter Sale Review

The unprecedented results of the Inglis' Easter Yearling Sale prove that Australian Racing is in rude health. Seventeen lots sold for a million or more compared to nine last year and the average was up 25% on the 2016 sale.

Gai and Adrian managed to secure sixteen lots from the sale that is renowned for offering the crème de la crème. They also have been handed a large number of exciting horses to train next season by the likes of established owners Domeland and Emirates Park Stud. Its very exciting times as these youngsters will join the 29 yearlings purchased from the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale and the 18 sourced from the Inglis Premier, Inglis Classic and Karaka Yearling Sales.

One of the picks of the sale was a grey Sebring colt out of Dane Belltar from the draft of Mill Park Stud. Gai described him as, “A real quality type with a purposeful walk and a great attitude. He took the sale in his stride and looks a very exciting colt going forward.”

This colt also has the pedigree to match his appearance. His sire, Sebring, is very familiar to Gai as she trained the Champion 2-year-old to win both the Golden Slipper and Sires’ Produce Stakes. His dam was also an accomplished racehorse winning at Group 3 level and placing in three occasions at Group 1 level. At stud she has also produced Caulfield Cup winner, Fawkner and Adelaide Cup winner, Tanby.

Gai and Adrian also bought four other yearlings by Sebring. Through leading two-year-olds Sheikha and Serena Bay, the stable has already been shown to click with his progeny just as they did with Sebring himself. Following on from this theme, Gai and Adrian also purchased two lots by More Than Ready, a sire they also have a great affinity with. More than ready is not only the sire of Sebring but also More Joyous, an eight-time Group 1 winner for Gai and is arguably More Than Ready’s most impressive off spring to date.

Other notable purchases include a half-brother to Star Witness from the draft of Widden Stud, and a Redoute’s Choice filly out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner, Spanish Moon.

Reflecting on the Easter purchases, Gai commented, “We have managed to secure a lovely range of athletic horses that I can’t wait to get into the stable. Every single one of them stood out to me during our inspections and they have all shown they have the potential to develop into future champions.”

A Trip to the Hunter - Madison Scott

I am on the Godolphin Flying Start program. We do several external work placements during our time on GFS, and I was fortunate enough to be placed with Gai & Adrian for three weeks.

There is no better feeling than walking away from a sale knowing that you have bought well, and this filly was very much the icing on the cake for me.
