Weekly Stable Star

Our 'Weekly Stable Star' is our yearling colt, DISSIDENT x CITY OF SONG.

As a racehorse, Dissident had all the credentials to succeed on the racetrack and succeed he did. In fact, he excelled. Accumulating over $2 million in prizemoney for his connections, Dissident commenced his Group 1 winning stardom back in March 2014 in the Randwick Guineas, before displaying a sensational first up performance in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield in August of that year. Two weeks later he took out the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over the mile at Flemington only to be nudged out by a nose in his next start, the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes. He returned the following preparation to record another two wins at the highest level in the CF Orr Stakes and the time honoured All Aged Stakes which was the last we saw this middle distance superstar brace the racetrack having retired in April of 2015 to Newgate Stud.

The first crop of Dissident’s at Magic Millions were highly sought after with the likes of Hong Kong Bloodstock Agent George Moore going to $525,000 to secure a colt out of the mare Prompt, dam of Prompt Response who is a 3 x Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1 placegetter for the Lady Trainer and Adrian Bott.

The Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January is the most successful sale for finding precocious, sharp 2 year old type’s in the hope of getting your next big ticket. Gai has had more success producing stallions than any other trainer with three of her six Golden Slipper winners purchased from this sale (SEBRING, PIERRO & VANCOUVER), and lot 616 from Magic Millions ticked all the right boxes. A son of Dissident out of the precocious Stakes winning Bel Esprit mare, City Of Song. This colt had it all, the bone, the muscle, the strong and powerful hindquarter and not to mention his athleticism and free flowing action.

Thankfully, we were able to secure this colt for a very affordable $200,000 as the Inglis Easter Sale only saw prices rise for this first season sire with China Horse Club’s, Michael Wallace paying $800,000 for a colt out of the Charge Forward Stakes winning mare, Assail.

Dissident x City Of Song is currently in his first preparation here at Tulloch Lodge and boy has he developed and strengthened hugely over the last few months. He is handling the rigours of training like a professional and his intelligence and professional attitude holds him in very good stead ahead of the first official 2 year old trials which are looming closer and closer.

Dissident x City Of Song is definitely worth looking into with only a small percentage remaining in this colt. He won't last long!

If you’re looking for a stable in peak form at the moment, you need look no further than Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
